Event Description
FREE ENTRY – NO TICKET REQUIRED – COME, VISIT, SEE, LEARN
With a nod to the Malachi’s past use as a wool handler’s warehouse, we are thrilled to welcome Emma Shepherd from Sundance Studio who will be creating a commissioned weaving for the newly dressed stage. During the spring school holiday fortnight, Emma will set up her eight-shaft loom in the foyer and weave her design in 100% wool. Inspired by the wonderful architecture of the theatre, the weaving will be 21 metres of double woven cloth and is designed to create a new hem and valance to complete the green velvet grand drapes. Alongside Emma, a local group of wool spinners led by Lexi Kellam will set up their spinning wheels to make yarn from fleeces donated by local farmer Cress Dawson.
Free entry, 10 am – 4 pm, Saturday 24 September – Sunday 9 October 2022 – closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Come and visit the craftspeople working in-situ and learn about the ancient craft of spinning and weaving. See the interiors of the refurbished Hall and find out more about the role of textiles in theatre.
